CORPORATE PROFILE

Head Office Corporate Information
One of the worlds leading manufacturers of entertainment
and medical equipment, from MRI machines to PDA's, Toshiba has established
itself as a provider of reliable technological solutions. Originally established
almost 125 years ago, the company has since expanded and now has offices
across the globe. This Tokyo based company generates an annual income
in the area of $54 billion dollars; in the year 2000 sported a repertoire
of over 116,000 different products. It is this diversity in products mixed
with strong customer relations that makes Toshiba the technology power
horse that it is.
Canadian Corporate Information
Established around 1985, Toshiba's Canadian office has played
an integral role in the company's annual revenue. In 2001, the company
predicted that the annual profit that year was in the range of about $600
million dollars. The Canadian branch of this technology giant is based
in Markham, Ontario, where it conducts research and development as well
as product demonstrations, training sessions, and maintains a technical
support area. A subsidiary of Toshiba Corporation, Tokyo, and the company
maintains regional offices throughout Canada from Victoria to Halifax.
PRODUCT INTRODUCTION

In the past few years, the world has seen remarkable advances
in the world of personal digital assistants or PDA's as they are referred
to. The technology has become so advanced that it is now possible to purchase
advanced versions of these PDA's known as Pocket PC's. These pocket PC's
run at anywhere between 100 and 500 MHz. Microsoft took this as an opportunity
to widen their horizons and now the Pocket PC's run on various versions
of Windows CE. The little computers also feature onboard RAM, flash card
readers and integrated wireless Ethernet cards. In essence they are like
Nintendo Game boy's on steroids, as the user can also input games for
pleasure. It is this mixture of the ability to organize one's schedule
while engaging in a friendly game of Doom CE that has made these pocket
PC's so popular. To add to their already crowded list of features, they
double as MP3 players and will play movie files.
Seeing this as a way to broaden their customer base, Toshiba
adopted the task of creating their own Pocket PC. Their first attempt
came in the form of the Toshiba e330. Running at 300 MHz with 64MB of
SDRAM, the product was a hit. Casio, Compaq, and Sony, now had a new competitor
on their hands. Toshiba didn't stop there; they later released the Toshiba
e740, a much faster, and more compatible new Pocket PC, that would surely
keep up Toshiba's good name.
